February is American Heart Month! This month is a great time to build awareness of heart disease and inform employees about preventative actions they can take to decrease their risk.

 

According to the American Heart Association, 25% of employer healthcare costs are due to risk factors related to heart disease. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s “Moving into Action” plan, there are four different types of actions employers should take to help encourage heart healthy environments in the workplace:

  2. Offer incentives for healthy choices and participating in your wellness program.
  3. Provide coverage for preventive health screenings. If employees can save on these screenings, they are more likely to go ahead and complete them.
